Rahul's Story

Selecting a career in photography over a well-paid and esteemed government job was an unconventional choice during a time when photography was predominantly viewed as a hobby rather than a fully-fledged profession. Despite initial opposition, Rahul Janardan Jadhav, a prominent cinematographer turned director, opted for this path and demonstrated the value of taking such a risk. His remarkable contributions to the film and television industry serve as a testament to his decision.

Rahul's entry into still photography occurred serendipitously. While preparing for the MPSC (the state government exam for officers' posts), he undertook a photography assignment that his father, Mr. Janardan Jadhav, a skilled still photographer, could not fulfill. It was during this assignment that noted cinematographer and director Mr. Rakesh Sarang recognized Rahul's talent, offering him a position as his assistant. Despite having already cleared the MPSC and secured a posting in Nagpur, Rahul chose to pursue the opportunity as an Assistant Photographer, a decision that marked a defining moment in his career. From that point forward, Rahul remained steadfast in his dedication to the profession. He attributes his success to the mentorship of Mr. Rakesh Sarang and Mr. Rajesh Satankar, a well-respected cinematographer who guided Rahul for three years, refining his skills, nurturing his passion, and helping him transition it into a profession. Rahul's journey from passion to profession serves as an inspiration to aspiring photographers.

His debut as an independent Director of Photography (Cameraman) for the popular Marathi serial 'Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre,' broadcasted on Zee TV, marked a significant milestone in his career. Another noteworthy achievement was receiving the Best Cinematographer award for his work on the film "Aga Bai Arechya" (2004). Since then, Rahul has contributed to over 25 films as a Cinematographer and earned the Best Cinematographer award for the film 'Narbachi Wadi,' an adaptation of the Bengali play 'Shajjano Bagan' by Manoj Mitra, scripted by the veteran screenwriter and lyricist Guru Thakur.

His directorial debut, 'Vijay Aso,' a political satire by Chinmay Mandalekar, was followed by the Marathi comedy film 'Murder Mestri' (2015), for which he received the Best Director award. Rahul's first venture as a writer and director was the short film 'Pach Paishachi Antyayatra,' which has garnered multiple awards at various film festivals. His work as a Director and Cinematographer has earned him nominations for numerous prestigious accolades.

Rahul has also made substantial contributions to television, serving as an independent Director of Photography/Cinematographer for over 1000 episodes of various TV shows/serials, including classics like 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi,' and creating 435+ advertising promos for the serials.

Rahul's upcoming directorial projects will focus on highlighting the uncelebrated heroes of history, paying tribute to the great valor of 'Chhatrapati Tararani' and 'Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre,' which will soon grace the silver screen under his direction. Both films are endeavors of his production company, 'Kreative Madaries,' which Rahul established.

Based in Mumbai, Rahul is committed to seeking opportunities to make a positive impact through his work. In addition to film and television, he has undertaken diverse projects in various domains and remains open to engaging new opportunities that encourage innovative thinking. For updates on his projects, you can follow him on his social media profiles. Have a productive day ahead!
